Selecting the proper Plategrip size initially will
avoid potential problems later. The two keys to
selecting proper size are belt thickness and pul-
ley diameter. The chart below indicates the
Plategrip belt fastener size number for various
combinations of belt thickness and pulley diam-
eter.
For some belt thicknesses, the chart indicates two
Plategrip sizes. For example, for a 1/2" belt, either a No. 1 1/4 or a No. 1 1/2 Plategrip fastener
could be used.
The smaller fastener is perfectly suited for applications where the conveyor will operate within
normal ranges at all times. However, where belts will sometimes operate with overloads, or for
exceptionally long belts, running at high speeds, the next larger recommended size in the overlap-
ping size range should be selected.
The 90° splice is generally used where
pulley diameter and belt thickness corre-
spond to recommendations in the chart
above.
The 45° splice should be used where pul-
ley diameters are smaller than the recommended diameter. The
45° splice will reduce flexing of belts behind the fastener and has
the same strength as the corresponding 90° splice.
